Busan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul, and Gwangju, promote the '2024 Korea Art Festival.'

□ Busan Metropolitan City, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul, and Gwangju, announced its participation in the '2024 Korea Art Festival.


□ The city, along with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Gwangju Metropolitan City, held a joint declaration ceremony on April 22 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea to ensure the successful operation of the 'Korea Art Festival.


□ This event was held to operate various art events conducted separately by local authorities and the public/private sectors through 'Korea Art Week' until last year, with the 'Korea Art Festival', through close cooperation between institutions, starting this year.


□ With the announcement of this joint declaration, the city will collaborate with the national government to promote art tourism in Busan by hosting the Busan Biennale from August 17 to October 20, aligning with the Korea Art Festival scheduled for September.

○ The city is actively promoting various art events, including the Busan Biennale, under the name 'Korea Art Festival,' not only domestically, but also internationally, providing an opportunity to actively promote the greatness of the Busan Biennale abroad.

The city has created opportunities to progressively acknowledge the excellence of the Busan Biennale abroad by actively promoting various art events in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, including the Busan Biennale, under the name 'Korea Art Festival.'


□ Furthermore, the city plans to support the <2024 Korea Art Festival> to be held in September in order to establish the event as a representative art event in Korea and a global festival by closely cooperating with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul, and Gwangju on various exhibitions, events, content and schedules.

○ Busan and Gwangju will sell integrated admission tickets for the Biennale, which connects the two cities’ events, offering a 30% discount (23,800 KRW) compared to the regular price (34,000 KRW), allowing visitors to enjoy a wide variety of visual art events and exhibition content in both cities.

○ Moreover, those with integrated admission tickets from August 17 to December 1, during the Biennale period, will also receive discounts or free admission at major art galleries*.

Additionally, various benefits will be provided through collaboration with related organizations, such as the sale of KTX tourism packages linked to Biennale admission tickets.

* Including the Seoul Arts Center (10-15%), LEEUM (20%), Coreana Museum of Art (20~2%), Ilmin Museum of Art (22%), Suwon Museum of Art(50%), Clayarch Gimhae Museum (20%), Jeonnam Museum of Art (free), etc.

○ Furthermore, the 'KIAF Seoul' and ‘FRIEZE Seoul,' jointly held for the third consecutive year, also contributes to the growth of the 'Korea Art Festival' into a mega-event due to the influx of tourists.


□ Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, ”Busan, with its diverse spatial characteristics and rich history, is an attractive and special city with abundant storytelling potential through the medium of 'art.'' He added, “Through this joint declaration, we will actively collaborate with related organizations, to not only showcase the uniqueness of Busan's art, but also propel it towards greater advancements.”

○ The '2024 Busan Biennale,' themed 'Seeing in the Dark,' will welcome visitors for 65 days from August 17 through October 20, featuring exhibitions at venues such as the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art and the Hyundai Building at Jungang-dong after a two-year hiatus.
