Busan International Short Film Festival returns for 41st year
The Busan International Short Film Festival will be held at the Seoul Cinema Center and the BNK Busan Bank Art Cinema Corner Theater from the 25th to the 30th.

Sponsored by the Busan Metropolitan Government and hosted and organized by the Busan International Short Film Festival, the festival marks its 41st anniversary this year, starting in 1980.

According to the Busan Metropolitan Government on the 22nd, this year, it will introduce short stories containing reality such as 3D movies, experimental films, and two-way films under the theme of "Film & Reality."

During the festival, 136 films from 43 countries, including 39 international competitions and 20 Korean competitions, will be screened out of 3,682 entries from 116 countries.

This year's opening film was selected for the first time since the festival was held, and a total of three films were selected among international and domestic competitors, including guest countries, Asian and Korean works.

The guest country's Italian work "Diving," Asian work "Really Swear," and Korean work "My Mother's Story" will be unveiled at the opening ceremony at 7 p.m. on the 25th at the Sky Theater of the Seoul Cinema Center.

As a pre-performance for the opening ceremony, the "Drone Drawing Performance Concert," which draws the official poster of the Busan International Short Film Festival with a drone, will be presented, and Italian pianist Giusefina Torre's "Cine Concert" will be prepared as an opening performance.

This year, to mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Italy, Italy is selected as the guest country and various short films of Italy will be screened under the slogan "Tiamo! Italy!"

The guest country program is a representative program of the Busan International Short Film Festival, which selects a country every year and introduces the country's short films very deeply and widely.

In addition, various programs such as Korea, Asia, Prism, and special screenings will introduce short films from around the world, and run new media cinema workshops and new media experience spaces.

Following last year, the festival held a special exhibition for the first time among domestic film festivals at the "Cinematech Française," a holy site for global filmmakers located in Paris, France, this year, serving as a major window for introducing excellent short films from Korea abroad.

In 2023, he was the only Asian film festival to be selected on the "Film Festival List, which was not a waste of money to be released" by the U.S. film magazine "Movi Maker," solidifying the festival's status in the world film industry.

At the closing ceremony, which will be held at 7 p.m. on the 30th, 12 winners in four categories, including the best picture award in each category, will be announced.

The festival is the first academy-certified film festival in Korea, and the best film in the international and Korean competition categories is automatically recommended as a short live action and short animation candidate at the U.S. Academy Awards.
